An Inter-Commodity Spread That Tells Us A Lot About Oil And Gold

The oil-gold spread has moved from over 42:1 in February 2016 to 27:1 recently, on a historical value basis, gold is expensive when compared to the price of oil. In my latest work for Seeking Alpha, I look at the spread that measures the number of barrels of oil that an ounce of gold can buy and wonder if the spread is on its way to its long-term historical norm around the 16:1 level.
